Another key female employee leaves Reddit

Corrections and clarifications: This story was updated to correct the title for Victoria Taylor, who was Reddit’s director of talent.

Two weeks after Reddit addressed changes to its content policy, yet another prominent female employee is leaving the website.

A Reddit spokeswoman confirmed that Jessica Moreno, will be leaving her position as Reddit's head of community to return home to be with her family, but has yet to settle on an exact date.

Moreno's departure will mark the fourth female employee to leave Reddit in the past month.

"We're grateful for her invaluable contributions to our community, from Secret Santa to industry-leading policy changes, and wish her all the best in her future endeavors," spokeswoman Ashley Dawkins said in an emailed statement.

Reddit has experienced a bit of a tumultuous ride lately as it looks to amend its policies to address hateful and harmful content.

Ardent Reddit users reached a boiling point last month when former CEO Ellen Pao blocked certain groups (called subreddits) that she deemed offensive. This decision was met with serious backlash as users raised questions of censorship on a website that was founded as a platform of free-wheeling and open discussion.

Pao resigned from her position earlier this month. Former CEO and co-founder of the site, Steve Huffman stepped in to fill the vacant spot, and has since tried to calm the unrest among users.

Huffman held an open discussion last week and welcomed suggestions on how the site could crack down on hateful and harmful content, while still staying true to its values as a place for open discussion.

Shortly after Pao's departure, the site's chief engineer, Bethanye Blount, stepped down from her position after less than two months on the job. Blount said she decided to leave Reddit because she lost confidence in the direction that the company was headed.

The Reddit community went up in arms earlier in the month after popular staffer Victoria Taylor, the site's director of talent, was abruptly let go. This move was met with major uproar from the online community, which led some moderators to protest and block popular subreddits, some of which had millions of members.
