Why Olivia Munn turned down 'Deadpool'

Want Olivia Munn to be in your next movie? Think very carefully about the part you're offering her.

The star has made it very clear that she doesn't want to just be playing the "girlfriend" anymore. She's here to play the hero. And that's why she chose to be Psylocke in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, and not the female lead in this year's Deadpool.

In a new interview with American Way magazine, she explained that she passed on the Deadpool part (which went to Homeland star Morena Baccarin) because she "didn’t want to be the girlfriend." (Although it's worth noting that in the comic books, the character is a hero in her own right named Copycat, so maybe Baccarin will get a chance to do some butt-kicking in the sequel.)

For X-Men Munn had a big question during her early meetings about the character.

“I said, ‘Is there a fight scene?’ ” Munn told the magazine. “I thought Psylocke was always one of the most lethal characters, and I said, ‘Yes, as long as you’re not using her to be the eye candy. She has really powerful abilities.’ And they said, ‘Yes, that’s an important part.’”

Amen to that.
