Steelers David DeCastro played in lowest rated Pro Bowl of all time

I feel bad for the Pro Bowl. Of all the professional sports, the NFL has the laughing stock of all-star events. This is partly due to the fact that the Super Bowl is such a huge event, that it essentially blacks out everything else around it. However, due to the length of schedule, there’s just no way to fix it from a logistical standpoint. For MLB and the NBA, sticking the all-star game in the middle of the season makes it much more watchable, and far easier to market it.

It’s bad enough that people don’t want to watch, even NFL players don’t want to attend.

The Pittsburgh Steelers guard David DeCastro was among the 133 that were invited, and one of the ones that actually chose to attend. This was DeCastro’s first time being voted to the Pro Bowl, so I’m sure he was excited to attend and participate. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like too many fans tuned in to watch.

The Pro Bowl is smack dab in the middle of a football dead zone. You would think that alone would bring in some viewers. However, the watered-down rules and lack of interest by the players have made the exhibition unwatchable. The league might to better to scrap the event as it exists, and turn it into some sort of NFL skills weekend or a 7-on-7 flag football tournament for rookie against veterans. There are plenty of ideas out there, and after this season’s ratings, it’s hard to think things could get any worse.
