Bell: Dear Johnny Manziel, get the help you clearly need

QB Johnny Manziel isn't expected to be a member of the Browns much longer.

Get some help, Johnny Manziel.

With yet another episode involving the flamboyant, soon-to-be released quarterback of the Cleveland Browns illuminating a life that has spun out of control, it seems that everyone realizes what must happen next to save the man ... except the person who really needs to admit it.

Manziel, 23, is being investigated by police in the Dallas area after an alleged domestic violence incident last weekend during which his former girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, maintained that he threatened, “Shut up or I will kill us both.”

Forget trying to land the next football job. At least for now.

Save your life, Johnny Football.

Johnny Manziel's ex-girlfriend tells police QB assaulted her

That Manziel told TMZ, “I’m completely stable,” amplifies what is tragically obvious.

Despite the warning signs that have stacked up after one off-the-field incident after another — following a stint in rehab last offseason — Manziel is apparently in serious denial. His actions, though, are of a man crying out for help.

The next episode could be worse.

Consider the haunting words from Manziel’s father, Paul, frustrated that attempts at intervention have failed. Paul Manziel told The Dallas Morning News on Friday that the family has tried to get his son to accept professional help twice in the past week. He told the newspaper that when he tried to have the former Heisman Trophy winner admitted to a psychiatric and chemical dependency hospital last week, Manziel was allowed to leave.

“I truly believe if they can’t get him help, he won’t live to see his 24th birthday,” Paul Manziel told The Dallas Morning News.

Nothing hammers home the state of Johnny Manziel quite like that.
