Fire breaks out at recycling center near Phoenix airport

Phoenix Fire Department was battling a fire near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.

PHOENIX — Firefighters are battling a first-alarm fire Tuesday near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, according to Phoenix fire spokesman, Capt. Aaron Ernsberger.

The address, indicates it is a recycling plant called Arizona Pacific Pulp and Paper.

Sky Harbor officials said the fire is not on airport grounds and was not affecting airport operations.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Late Tuesday afternoon, a large, dark plume of smoke could be seen for miles around the Valley.
