Donald Trump's attacks on the news media: A not-so-short history

Trump campaign bars the news site from rallies after the newspaper calls on Trump to quit the presidential race.

Trump says Kelly, who questioned him about insulting women, had "blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her... wherever." He subsequently tweets that he was referring to Kelly's nose, but the remark is widely interpreted as a reference to menstruation.

"They're scum. They're horrible people. They are so illegitimate. … Some of the people in the press are honorable. But you’ve got 50% who are terrible people.’’

Trump, jerking his arms and holding one hand at an angle, appears to ridicule the physical disability of the reporter, who'd said he found no evidence of widespread 9/11 celebrations by Muslims alleged by Trump.

Trump tells crowd the journalists covering him are "absolutely dishonest. Absolute scum. Remember that. Scum. Scum. Totally dishonest people."

"I would never kill them, but I do hate them. And some of them are such lying, disgusting people. It's true."

Trump campaign excludes the reporter from campaign stop that’s covered by more than a dozen other journalists. Two days earlier the Times had run a story questioning the effectiveness of Trump’s Iowa field operation.

Trump asks crowd in a high school gym to turn toward the "sleazebags." He says they probably will misrepresent the one empty portion of the bleachers closed for safety concerns as evidence the rally was poorly attended. "What sleaze, what sleaze,’’ he says. “They're disgusting."

I’ve never said this before. I’m going to open up our libel laws so when (journalists) write purposely negative and horrible and false articles we can sue them and win lots of money,’’ Trump says at a rally.

"In England, it's very much different and very much easier (to sue). I think it's very unfair when the New York Times can write a story that they know is false, that they virtually told me they know it's false, and I say, ‘Why don't you pull the story?’ and they say, ‘We're not going to do that,’ because they can't basically be sued.’’

The reporter from the conservative website says campaign manager Corey Lewandowski yanks her away from Trump at a news conference. The Trump campaign denies her assertions.
