Video shows Iowa kid catching Rubio football pass (with his hands this time)

Remember the social media sensation Marco Rubio caused last summer when he accidentally hit a 4-year-old Iowa boy in the face with a football?

A new video out Tuesday pokes fun at that moment — and at the uber-seriousness that often envelopes Washington.

The nearly two-minute video, conceived and produced by the conservative website Independent Review Journal, reconnects the Florida senator and the boy, Brody Dill, as they try once again to complete a pass (spoiler alert: Brody catches the ball).

It also includes footage of footballs being flung at some of Washington's most prominent conservatives, including anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist.

Rubio and football are a recurring theme. But Rubio spokesman Alex Conant said the campaign wasn't involved in the new spot.

"It was done completely independent of the campaign," he wrote in an email. "IJ Review pitched us on the idea. They filmed Marco a few months ago. We didn't see it until they released it this AM."

Turns out a reunion was Brody's wish as well. He's the nephew of Iowa state Sen. Jack Whitver, who is chairing Rubio's Iowa campaign.

The spot includes cameos from several Rubio backers, including Sen. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado and Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, all ducking or catching footballs.

Gowdy, who chairs the House investigation into the 2012 Benghazi attacks, calls for a probe into the flying footballs.

"It should be bipartisan. It should be bicameral and it should be serious," he said while trying to keep a straight face as he catches a football.
