Get to know NCAA basketball's top 10 scorers

Guards dominate the scoring list in Division I college basketball: The entire top 10 are backcourt players. Four of them are 6-0 and under.

And many of them are names you might not recognize.

With just about a month to college basketball's Selection Sunday (March 13), here is a look at the nation's top scorers:

Tennessee Volunteers guard Kevin Punter.

10. Kevin Punter Jr., 6-2 senior, Tennessee

  • Averaging 22.4 points per game
  • Transferred to Tennessee before the 2014-15 season from State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Mo., where he was selected as a first-team NJCAA All-American his sophomore year
  • Scored a career-high 36 points against South Carolina on Jan. 23 to help lift the Vols to a 78-69 upset against the then-24th ranked Gamecocks
  • Has scored 20 or more points in 17 games this season
  • Has made the second-most free throws in the SEC (147)

9. Zeek Woodley, 6-2 junior, Northwestern State

  • Averaging 22.8 points per game
  • Entered 2015-16 season as the country’s leading returning scorer (22.2 points per game)
  • Fifth in the nation in free-throw percentage (90.1%)
  • 2013-14 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year
  • Also averaging 5.2 rebounds per game and shooting 43% from three

8. Obi Emegano, 6-3 senior, Oral Roberts

  • Averaging 23.1 points per game
  • Has scored 20 or more points in every game since Jan. 14
  • Averaged 18.3 points per game in 2014-15
  • Has played 35 or more minutes in 20 games this season
  • Named to 2014-15 First Team All-Summit League and 2015-16 Preseason Summit League Player of the Year

7. Stefan Moody, 5-11 senior, Ole Miss

  • Averaging 23.3 points per game
  • Spent his freshman year at Florida Atlantic, and then transferred to Kilgore College in Texas for his sophomore season before coming to Ole Miss for his junior and senior years
  • Has scored in double-figures in every game he has appeared in this season
  • Averaging 24.1 points per game in SEC play
  • Leads the SEC in scoring and is third in the conference in made threes (70)

6. Anthony “Cat” Barber, 6-2 junior, North Carolina State

  • Averaging 23.5 points per game
  • Averaging 28.8 points per game in his last six (at Pittsburgh, Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, at Florida State and at Duke)
  • Has played 40 or more minutes in 12 games this season and averages the most minutes per game of any player in the ACC (38.7)
  • Leads the ACC in scoring by almost three points, is fourth in the conference in assists per game (4.7) and is third in free-throw percentage (86.9%)
  • Scored a career-high 37 points against Winthrop on Nov. 27 without attempting a single three-point shot

Oakland Golden Grizzlies guard Kahlil Felder.

5. Kahlil Felder, 5-9 junior, Oakland

  • Averaging 24.6 points per game
  • Has scored more than 30 points more times this season than he has scored fewer than 20
  • Leads the nation in assists per game (9.2)
  • Has 14 double-doubles so far this season (tied for 12th nationally)
  • Scored 37 points against Michigan State on Dec. 22, dropped 30 on Virginia one week later on Dec. 30 and put up a career-high 38 points in a win against Washington on Dec. 19

4. Jack Gibbs, 6-0 junior, Davidson

  • Averaging 24.6 points per game
  • Has scored 40 or more points in three games this season, including a career-high 43 points against Massachusetts on Jan. 16
  • Also averaging 5.0 assists per game and 4.2 rebounds per game
  • Takes an average of 18 shots per game
  • In the 2014-15 season, he became the first Davidson player since Steph Curry to have multiple 30-point games

3. Josh Adams, 6-2 senior, Wyoming

  • Averaging 24.7 points per game
  • In 35 games last season he scored 449 points, but through 23 games this year he has already scored 567
  • Has been a started for all four years of his career at Wyoming
  • Also averaging 5.8 rebounds per game and 4.0 assists per game
  • Has shot and made at least one free throw in every game this season except Utah State on Feb. 6

2. Buddy Hield, 6-4 senior, Oklahoma

  • Averaging 25.7 points per game
  • Averaging 25.1 points per game in games against ranked opponents
  • Scored career-high 46 points in a triple-overtime 190-106 losing effort to Kansas on Jan. 4
  • Leads the country in three-point percentage (50%) and total three-pointers made (96)
  • Fourth nationally in free-throw percentage (90.2%)

Howard guard James Daniel .

1. James Daniel III, 5-11 junior, Howard

  • Averaging 27.4 points per game
  • Has not scored less than 18 points in any game this season
  • Has made the most free throws in the country (209), attempted the most free throws in the country (240) and has made at least four free throws in every game this season
  • Also averaging 2.5 steals per game
  • Has scored in double-figures in every game he has played in for almost an entire calendar year (last time until 10 points was Feb. 16, 2015)
