Exclusive: Get ready for 'Doctor Strange' to be a 'mind-trip action film'
Geeked for Benedict Cumberbatch to play Marvel's sorcerer supreme in Doctor Strange? Even though filming just started, an exclusive clip from the new Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase 2 Collection set (available Tuesday exclusively at Amazon) gives a hint as to what superhero fans can expect from the MCU version of the master of mystic arts. He'll be introduced in Marvel's "Phase 3" of films that'll include Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther and a new Spider-Man flick.
First of all: They needed a spectacular actor to pull off the role of Stephen Strange, and getting Cumberbatch was pretty much a coup, according to producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson agrees:
"Benedict has got an incredibly complicated emotional structure going on."
We know what you're thinking now, though: WHAT ABOUT ALL THE MAGIC, YO?! Well, Strange will balance grounded hocus pocus and crazy visual ideas in what Derrickson describes as "a mind-trip action film." Feige is definitely down:
"How do you put that on a screen within this cinematic universe? That is one of the primary goals of that movie."
The look at the "Phase 3" slate comes as a bonus in the new 13-disc set that includes the last six Marvel movies since Iron Man 3, some cool memorabilia and a really freaking sweet prop replica of the orb from Guardians of the Galaxy.
