DeMille soars to No. 1 with 'Angel'

Here's a look at what's new on USA TODAY's Best-Selling Books list…

'Angel' rises: Nelson DeMille is kicking off the summer reading season with a bang with his first-ever No. 1 USA TODAY best seller. His thriller Radiant Angel (Grand Central) lands this week in the top spot. (The full list will publish on Thursday.)

It's DeMille's 19th novel and the seventh in his John Corey series. Corey, now working for the Diplomatic Surveillance Group, is worried about a newly resurgent Russia and a threat posed to Manhattan.

DeMille has had 14 previous USA TODAY best sellers; his highest ranking until now was Night Fall at No. 3 in 2004.

The author is on a national tour that wraps up June 13 in East Hampton, N.Y.
