Chicago Blackhawks goalie performed incredible act of kindness for stranger

It hasn’t been an easy road to the NHL for Chicago Blackhawks backup goalie Scott Darling. In the past, Darling struggled with alcohol abuse and played for nine different minor league teams before the Blackhawks called him up.

To put it mildly, Darling has been through his fair share of hard times, and now that he’s achieved a measure of professional success, he’s reaching out to those who can’t help themselves.

Here’s an amazing story that comes to us via Twitter user Kane Van Gate that was told to him via an Uber driver in the Phoenix area:

Darling confirmed the account via his own Twitter feed but hasn’t commented further.

Darling has been mum about the specifics behind the event, about who the man was, why he wanted to help, and what else he may have offered, but his humility and sincerity shines through. I actually respect Darling a lot more for wanting to keep quiet about this remarkable act of kindness and not using it as a personal PR move.

Last year, Darling signed a 2-year, $1.1 million contract with the Blackhawks, which makes his annual average salary around $570,000. That’s good money, but he’s not raking in millions like some of his teammates, which makes this act even more noteworthy.

You don’t have to be a Blackhawks fan to appreciate the 27-year-old goalie’s generous spirit.
