Trump says he hopes he hasn't encouraged violence at rallies
Following a protester on Wednesday getting punched by a Trump supporter at a North Carolina campaign event, Donald Trump was asked during Thursday's debate at the University of Miami whether he worries he's helped encouraged violent responses at his rallies.
"I hope not. I truly hope not," Trump said. He explained that those at his rally have "tremendous passion and love for the country."
"They have anger that's unbelievable," he said. He added, though, regarding violent reactions: "I certainly do not condone that at all."
CNN moderator Jake Tapper followed up with previous Trump remarks that seemed to encouraged aggressive responses toward protesters.
“We have some protesters who are bad dudes," he said. "They have done bad things.” He later added that "it's not me" who is conducting aggressive responses and that local authorities are typically handling security.
