The prime minister of the United Arab Emirates announced recently the establishment of a minister of state for happiness and minister of state for tolerance as part of a new cabinet shakeup.

Minister of State for Happiness of the United Arab Emirates.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, said on Twitter that the new configuration is focused on the future, youth and happiness, the development of education and protecting the environment.

Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi was chosen for minister for happiness and Lubna bint Khaled al Qasimi has been appointed as the minister for tolerance.

So, what does the minister for happiness mean?

Mohammed tweeted that the post will "align and drive government policy to create social good and satisfaction."

Some folks on social media are mocking the positions.

But this isn't the first time a position like these have been created. In 2013, Venezuela's president created a vice ministry of supreme social happiness position.

Nicolas Maduro said the name was given to honor Hugo Chavez, who created programs to alleviate poverty in the country, according to the AP.

Maduro said that the position aimed to take care of the most "sublime, vulnerable and delicate, to those who are most loved by anyone who calls themselves a revolutionary, a Christian and Chavista," the AP reported.
