The week in Reviewed: Dresses made of beer?

This dress was made entirely out of beer.

This week at Reviewed.com, we kept ourselves occupied by testing out more of the latest and greatest in tech and home appliances. Some of the products we got our hands on included a budget-friendly LED TV from Sharp, as well as a laptop for gamers that'll answer the call of duty. We also dipped our toes into the highfalutin world of luxury appliances, as we reviewed a premium dishwasher and double wall oven.

In our news and features department, we learned about the Aussies and their most recent beer-related innovation: a dress made entirely out of beer. We also covered a grill that could be the Ferrari of George Foreman grills, the secret to keeping your rug clean, and a new, 12-foot-tall smoker that assists your BBQ with data.

Leave it to Aussies to make a dress out of beer

Not content to settle for a dress made of wine — which Australian researchers made back in 2012 — a new team of Australian scientists has created a dress made entirely of beer. It actually doesn't look bad, and unlike the dress made of wine, produces no unpleasant odors. (As for the dress's color, everyone can agree that this dress is white...we think.)

Sharp HD TV a sharp choice for entry-level buyers

4K TVs are steadily increasing their market share in 2015, but if you're content with "only" full-HD 1080p resolution, there are still plenty of attractive options out there. At 32 inches, this new LED TV from Sharp is among your smaller choices, but it also manages to pack some solid image quality and picture customization options into an affordable package — it can be found online for under $300.

Ingenious indoor grill makes perfect steaks every time

This countertop cooker is like the Ferrari of George Foreman grills. It's able to use precise temperature controls and a smartphone app to cook meats and veggies to just the right temperature and hold it there indefinitely, essentially replicating sous vide with less fuss and without the water bath. Best of all, you don't have to worry about leaving a steak in the oven and returning to find a charred mess.

New laptop a great fit for gamers on the go

Laptops geared towards gamers usually trade portability for power, but this new model from Razer proves that you don't have to choose. It offers enough dedicated horsepower to handle most of the top-tier games graphically in a sleek package that's relatively easy to lug around. Add in a slick-looking, vaguely sinister green and black color scheme, and you've got a great laptop for gamers on the go.

The secret to getting a cleaner rug

What's lurking beneath your rug? There may be more dirt than meets the eye. Fortunately, there's an easy way to uncover and clean out this filth, which involves vacuuming the underside of your rug with your vacuum's beater bar. You might be surprised by how much grime is actually caught inside your rug, but the good news is that you can get it out.

The future of dishwashers has arrived

This new dishwasher from high-end German brand Miele is hands down, one of the best dishwashers we've ever tested. It's called the Futura, and it lives up to its name as an indicator of where dishwashers are heading in the near future. It features excellent performance, as well as a door that opens automatically when a cycle is done, which is impressive, as well as a clever way to dry dishes.

GE's 12-foot smoker uses data to cook perfect BBQ

GE's new Super Smoker cooker uses real-time data and sensors to get BBQ that's just right. We got to see it in action in Austin, TX, and came away impressed — and full. GE's resident BBQ scientists (yes, this is an actual job) also offered tips on improving your home backyard barbecue, even if you don't have access to a gigantic smoker and reams of data.

Viking double wall oven is worth the luxury

If you're able to afford a luxury double oven, well, you've got (even more) good news: There are more options than ever for a high-performance double wall oven. This model by Viking is one of them, and it has a few features that help to distinguish itself. Most important are its sleek, stainless looks, in addition to the inclusion of a convection cooking mode in both of its cavities. It may not be the best in its class, but it's still a solid choice.
