5 ways Gwyneth Paltrow's beauty routine, diet might shock you

Tight with the Queen B and actual bees.

Gwyneth Paltrow is diving glowing face first into makeup and skin care.

In an interview with The New York Times, the entrepreneur opened up about her beauty routine, unconventional treatments, and more balanced diet. Here are five rather surprising reveals.

1. She investigates the buzz around new skin treatments.

"I’m always the guinea pig to try everything. I’ve got to try them all," she said. While she hasn't enjoyed the sub-zero temps of cryotherapy yet, she has been stung by bees. "It’s a thousands of years old treatment called apitherapy. People use it to get rid of inflammation and scarring. It’s actually pretty incredible if you research it. But, man, it’s painful." Yeah, we bet.

2. She's "on the fence about fragrance."

The former face of Estée Lauder who helped the brand sell bottles of perfume is now conflicted about whether to spritz or not to spritz. "I collect some fragrances, but recently my head of beauty said you have to stop wearing fragrance because it’s unregulated and all that," she said. "The problem is, I think essential oils haven’t mastered the art of being subtle and layered."

3. Her daughter, Apple Martin, knows more about applying makeup than she does.

Paltrow said she leaves the house usually wearing nothing more than mascara and some color on her cheeks, but 11-year-old Apple is much more skilled in technique after watching videos on YouTube. "She loves experimenting. I obviously don’t let her out of the house with a full face. But I think she’s going to be way more into beauty than I am."

4. To conquer dry skin, Paltrow turns to her kitchen cupboard.

Her cookbook, It's All Easy, hits bookstores April 12, and it turns out she's raiding the cabinets for more than just ingredients. "Sometimes I’ll just use the organic coconut oil in my kitchen on my legs," she said.

5. Speaking of eating, her diet definitely has fewer restrictions than a decade ago.

In March, when we saw Paltrow on The Tonight Show demonstrating for Jimmy Fallon how organic her Goop products are--so much so that she actually dipped a McDonald's French fry into a jar--we were shocked. Not just because she was eating face product, but because we were pretty blown away that the actress would indulge in the Golden Arches staple.

"I think I see now that life is really a balance," she said. "And it’s great to eat nutrient-dense organic food, if you can. It’s also really great to drink a vodka and have French fries."

Vodka? Why yes, we will certainly have fries with that.
