The unwritten rules of Thanksgiving flag football according to an NFL receiver

Thanksgiving may be technically about the turkey and time with family and friends, but for thousands of people across the country it’s about something much more: Flag football and bragging rights.

For all of your questions (or at least the ones we had) about what’s acceptable and not during a casual Turkey Day flag football game, For The Win went to someone who plays real football to define the rules: Miami receiver Kenny Stills.

FTW: What’s an acceptable length of time to brag about winning the family flag football game?

Stills: All year. The bragging doesn’t stop until the champ is beaten.

FTW: How big should the playbook be and what’s a play that’s sure to work for a game-winner?

Stills: Only need one play. GET OPEN!

FTW: Is it OK to have a coach at the game and what should their role be?

Stills: Coaches are a necessity, gotta get everyone involved! Assignment: drawing plays in the dirt.

FTW: Is it OK to have practice before the family flag football game?

Stills: A little pregame warm up and stretch! Safety first!

FTW: How much trash talk is too much trash talk? End zone celebration?

Stills: There’s no such thing as too much! I’ve always been taught to act like you’ve been there though!

FTW: Are there any other unwritten rules that should be followed?

Stills: Make sure everyone has a good time!
