Jessica Mendoza will replace Curt Schilling on 'Sunday Night Baseball' for rest of season

On Friday, ESPN announced that former Olympic softball player Jessica Mendoza will be joining Sunday Night Baseball for the remainder of the season, effectively replacing Curt Schilling.

On Aug. 25, ESPN removed Schilling from a Little League World Series broadcast after a controversial tweet. On Thursday, the network announced the former Red Sox pitcher would be gone for the rest of the regular season and the Wild Card playoff game.

Mendoza originally took over for Schilling on the Aug. 31 broadcast of Sunday Night Baseball when Jake Arrieta threw a no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers. She also made history on Aug. 24, when she became the first woman to call an ESPN MLB game as an analyst.

Mendoza won an Olympic gold medal in Athens in 2004 with U.S. women’s softball team. She also nabbed a silver medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
