Denver Broncos will play Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50

The Denver Broncos will play the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Sunday, February 7 at 4:30 p.m. MST on CBS.

The game can be streamed live for free on CBSSports.com.

The Panthers are early 3.5-point favorites to win.

As the AFC team, Denver will get to choose what uniform they wear.

The Broncos reached the Super Bowl after going 12-4 in the regular season and claiming the AFC’s No. 1 seed. Denver defeated the Patriots 20-18 in the AFC Championship on Jan. 24.

This mark’s the first time in NFL history that a Super Bowl will not be known by its Roman Numeral. Because fifty would be “L,” the league decided to call this year’s championship game “Super Bowl 50.”

The NFL is expected to return to Roman Numerals next year.

Super Bowl 50 has been dubbed the Golden Super Bowl due in part because it will be played in the Golden State (California) and because fifty years traditionally marks a golden anniversary.

This marks the second time in three years that Denver has reached the Super Bowl.

The Panthers reached the Super Bowl after going 15-1 in the regular season and claiming the NFC’s No. 1 seed. Carolina defeated the Cardinals 49-15 in the NFC Championship on Jan. 24.

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is the first quarterback in NFL history to lead multiple teams (Denver and Indianapolis) to multiple Super Bowls (XLI, XLIV, XLVIII, L). This will mark Cam Newton’s first Super Bowl appearance.

Denver has faced Carolina four times since 1997, going 3-1 in those contests. The most recent game came in 2012. Denver won 36-14, and Von Miller blew up on social media after sacking Newton and celebrating with the quarterback’s signature Superman pose.

Super Bowl 50 will mark Denver’s eighth’s Super Bowl appearance and Carolina’s second Super Bowl appearance.

The Broncos last won a Super Bowl in 1998.
