Jerry Jones said Tuesday morning that quarterback Tony Romo, who will enter next season at 36 years of age, can play four to five more years for the Dallas Cowboys.

In comments made during his regularly scheduled weekly interview on local KRLD-FM radio in Dallas, the Cowboys owner grew testy when he was then asked follow-up questions about how long he believes Romo will continue to play.

"This is not a damn debate guys ... You asked me my opinion."

Romo will miss the remaining five games of the season after breaking his left collarbone on Thanksgiving for the second time this season. The injury, suffered when he landed squarely on the left shoulder late in the third quarter, is a hairline fracture that will not require surgery.

Romo also fractured the left collarbone in Week 2 at the Philadelphia Eagles. He missed seven games – all Cowboys’ losses – and returned Nov. 22 to help lead the Cowboys to a 24-14 victory at the Miami Dolphins.

He also fractured the same collarbone in 2010 and missed 10 games.

“Will we be looking to develop and get talent behind Romo? Absolutely,” Jones said Tuesday.

In his final game this season, Romo threw three interceptions – including two returned for touchdowns – in the first half of the 33-14 loss to the unbeaten Carolina Panthers.

The Cowboys are 3-8 and will turn to Matt Cassel at quarterback the rest of the season.
