So sexy: 'Fifty Shades' passes $500 million
Talk about levels of worldwide pain, Fifty Shades of Grey has passed a new threshold.
The kinky bondage film passed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office on Thursday, according to Universal Pictures. The breakdown is $150 million domestic and $352 million international.
The film shot out of the U.S. box office over President's Day weekend last month. It was the highest February weekend opening ever; the highest Valentine's Day weekend opening ever; the highest Valentine's Day opening ever ($36.8 million) and the top President's Day weekend opening of all time (four day).
Fifty Shades has slowed down domestically, falling to fourth place last weekend behind third-place finisher The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. But overseas Fifty Shades has continued to excel as the No. 1 film in 40 markets.
This weekend, the film opens in Egypt.
