Joni Mitchell suffered aneurysm, but can speak

Singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell suffered a brain aneurysm, but "can speak well" and is expected to make a "full recovery," according to her official site.

"Joni did in fact suffer an aneurysm," the site said. "However, details that have emerged in the past few days are mostly speculative. The truth is that Joni is speaking, and she's speaking well ... A full recovery is expected."

The statement was approved by Leslie Morris, Mitchell's conservator and longtime friend.

The official word came a couple days after Mitchell's old friend David Crosby told Huffington Post the opposite — that she could not speak.

On Friday, Crosby said he has not spoken to her because "to my knowledge she is not speaking yet."

Although she's a "tough girl," he said she took a "terrible hit. She had an aneurysm and nobody found her — for a while."

He said she's now home, in care and recovering.

"How it's going to go, we don't know yet. She's going to have to struggle back from it the way you struggle back from a traumatic brain injury."

Ever since Mitchell was rushed to a Los Angeles-area hospital after being found unconscious on her bathroom floor nearly three months ago, updates on condition have been few and far between, and confused by conflicting information circulating online.

Crosby, her former boyfriend, had provided the first update on her status since April 28, when a post on her official website said that, contrary to online reports, she was not in a coma.

"Joni is still in the hospital but she comprehends, she's alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected," the post said.

On May 4, at a court hearing, her longtime friend Morris was granted the power to make medical decisions for her.

David Crosby performs on June 9, 2015, in Miami Beach.

"I love her," Crosby said in the interview with Huffington Post. "She's probably the best of us — probably the greatest living singer/songwriter."
