NBA: Luke Walton won't get credit for wins and losses but is eligible for awards

USA TODAY Sports

The NBA has decided not to change its rule on assistant coaches and won/loss record, meaning Luke Walton will not be credited with any of the Golden State Warriors wins while coach Steve Kerr is recovering from back surgery.

Warriors interim coach Luke Walton will be eligible for postseason coaching awards, but his wins and losses will remain on coach Steve Kerr's record.

But the league announced Walton will be eligible for awards, such as coach of the month or coach of the year.

Walton is most certainly in line for awards, having guided the Warriors to the best start in NBA history. Golden State fought off the Jazz for a 106-103 victory Monday to improve their record to 19-0.

Walton has been filling in for Kerr, who took a leave of absence during the first week of training camp after suffering from complications following offseason back surgery. Kerr has said there is no timetable for his return.
