Congratulations to Cate Blanchett, who has a new baby girl through adoption in Australia.

Blanchett's rep, Lisa Kasteler, confirmed the news in a brief statement to USA TODAY on Friday.

"The Upton family (Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton) have adopted a baby girl. No further details will be provided."

Other media started reporting the adoption after the Australian magazine Women's Weekly was first with the story three days ago.

The baby's name initially was not released but after it was incorrectly reported as Vivienne, the couple issued another statement.

"Because the baby's name has been misreported, Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton have asked that we announce the correct name. Her name is Edith Vivian Patricia Upton," said the statement from Kasteler. .

Women's Weekly reported that Blanchett has been spotted with the baby recently while picking up her other children from their school in Sydney.

It's Blanchett's fourth child with screenwriter husband, Upton, 49: They have three sons, Ignatius Martin, 7 next month, Roman Robert, 10, and Dashiell John, 13.

The two-time Oscar-winner (Blue Jasmine, The Aviator), 45, told InStyle magazine's Australian edition in 2009 that "I would love to have more children.

"Just when, I don't know. But the thing is we hadn't planned any of the others, they just popped out," she said. "So you shouldn't over-plan these things. If it happens it would be great."

Blanchett has been in the USA this week promoting her new movie, Disney's Cinderella. She plays the evil stepmother to Downton Abbey's Lily James as the fair maiden.
