Craig Sager clarifies prognosis of 3 to 6 months to live is if he didn't receive treatment

Editor’s note: This story has been updated with Sager’s statement that provides a more full picture of his prognosis.

With a Real Sports special set to air on HBO Tuesday night, more light has been shed on Turner Sports sideline reporter Craig Sager’s battle with leukemia.

Sports Illustrated’s Ben Golliver tweeted a new transcript from the interview, and Sager asked the doctors point blank how much time he had to live.

We learned Monday that Sager’s leukemia was no longer in remission. It’s always tough when a doctor puts a timeframe on a life, and the entire sports community will undoubtedly root for Sager in this fight.

On Wednesday morning Sager clarified what doctors said — the 3 to 6 month period would be for someone who does not receive treatment.

Sager told HBO that his battle with cancer was entering “uncharted waters.”

Sager’s son, Craig Sager Jr., has been by his father’s side throughout his fight with cancer. He was present during HBO’s filming.
