Backward compatibility hits Xbox One in November

The Xbox One will introduce backward compatibility -- a feature that allows players to enjoy older games from the Xbox 360 -- to the console in November, Microsoft announced Tuesday.

Xbox One systems will be able to play older Xbox 360 games later this year.

Microsoft says 100 titles will be supported when the feature launches this fall, the company revealed in a statement at the start of the Gamescom conference in Germany.

Announced in June during the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, the backward compatibility feature will support games including Mass Effect, Super Meat Boy and Geometry Wars Evolved. Earlier this week, Microsoft announced all four Gears of War video games will also be available.

The timing of backward compatibility is one of several announcements made by Microsoft ahead of the Gamescom conference. The company also announced the Xbox One will add an over-the-air DVR to allow users to capture over-the-air broadcasts.
