Ole Miss benching Laremy Tunsil because of NCAA process
Ole Miss will not play preseason All-American Laremy Tunsil against UT-Martin today because of a "pending process" with the NCAA.
"As a precautionary measure, we are witholding Laremy Tunsil from today's game until the pending process can be completed," read a statement from Ole Miss released Saturday morning. "We are cooperating fully with the NCAA and feel this is the best way to protect Laremy, our football program and the university."
Tunsil, a junior left tackle, was accused by his stepfather, Lindsey Miller, in June of accepting improper benefits from agents. NCAA rules allow Tunsil to meet with potential agents (he is considered a top NFL Draft pick should he leave Ole Miss after the season), but not accept gifts.

The NCAA met with Miller, and Ole Miss said it launched its own internal investigation in response to the allegations.

Ole Miss had not previously indicated it expected Tunsil to miss any action. UT-Martin is a FCS team that is a heavy underdog and Ole Miss plays Fresno State in Week 2, but will play at No. 3 Alabama on Sept. 19.
Ole Miss indicated that any other players missing today's season-opener would not be related to Tunsil's situation. Middle linebacker C.J. Johnson is suspended for a violation of team rules, the Ole Miss Spirit reported.
