Watch all 7 goals from the bananas U.S. World Cup win

On Sunday, the U.S. Women’s National team won its first World Cup in 16 years in a game played at a blinding pace. If you got up to go to the kitchen for another beer (or a glass of water if that’s not your thing) you probably missed a goal.

The United States netted five, tying the tally of the men’s Brazil side in their 1958 World Cup win over Sweden for the most in finals history– men’s and women’s.

Carli Lloyd got the Americans off and running by scoring two goals from two set pieces less than five minutes into the game.

Lauren Holiday capitalized on a defensive miscue and volleyed the third home to really put Japan in hot water.

Just 15 minutes into the game, Lloyd seal a hat trick by catching the keeper off-guard from the halfway line.

I REPEAT: Carli Lloyd sealed a hat trick in a World Cup final by scoring from the halfway line. Your favorite could never:

Japan pulled a goal back before the half as the USWNT seemed to fall asleep at the wheel briefly. Yuki Ogimi turned Julie Johnston just outside the six-yard box and curled one in past Hope Solo to make it 4-1.

Japan scored again in the 51st minute after another lapse in concentration by the United States’ backline on a set piece– perhaps it was the sun in Hope Solo’s eyes, but either way, Japan was beginning to give off 2005 Liverpool in Instanbul comeback vibes.

That was until Tobin Heath snatched all hope of Japan pulling level away by slotting home from close range in the 54th minute to put the game out of reach.

An impressive and decisive victory from Jill Ellis’ outfit, and an absolute cracker of a soccer match.
