Nightingale

HBO, Friday, 8 ET/PT

Selma's David Oyelowo stars in this single-character film as a war veteran whose mind begins to unravel in front of us. Produced by Brad Pitt, among others, the film was written by Frederick Mensch and directed by Elliott Lester.

The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe/Beyond the Headlines: Who Killed Marilyn Monroe?

Lifetime, Sunday, 8 ET/PT

Lifetime's double-dose of Marilyn starts with the conclusion of this two-part biopic. Kelli Garner stars as Monroe, an incredibly hard part to play because Marilyn Monroe still exists where she always existed for us: on the screen, and that image she projected is a hard one to match. Even at that, Secret might be a better bet than its Who Killed companion, which is most likely one of those specials that raises a question it has no real ability to answer. But be sure of this: reputations will be trashed in the process.

Golan the Insatiable

Fox, 9:30 ET/PT

This cartoon comedy is the first to graduate from Fox's Animation Domination High-Def late-night programming block to prime time. Along the way, it's picked up a new vocal cast, with Rob Riggle providing the voice of Golan, a godlord from an alternate dimension who lands in Minnesota, and Aubrey Plaza voicing Dylan, the small child who is his only friend — and who wants him to destroy her town.
