Jeb Bush touts 'Sportsmen's Coalition' for gun rights

Seeking to amplify the issue of gun rights, Jeb Bush's campaign announced Tuesday the formation of an advisory committee for what he calls his "Sportsmen's Coalition."

The group of officials from government, agriculture, and wildlife departments "will build the coalition and help spread Jeb’s message about the importance of hunting and fishing traditions and protecting the Second Amendment for law-abiding citizens," the Bush campaign said in a statement.

Bush will discuss his Sportsmen's Coalition during a visit to Brownell's Firearms Manufacturing in Grinnell, Iowa, the campaign said.

Another topic for the former Florida governor: President Obama's new executive actions on gun control.

Bush is looking to rally from low poll numbers in Iowa and New Hampshire, and gun control is a major issue for Republican voters who are considering a crowded field of candidates.

Former Alabama governor Bob Riley, a member of the Sportsmen 's Coalition, called Bush a "champion" for the Second Amendment.

"I've hunted and fished all my life, and I know Jeb Bush has stood up to the relentless, repeated attacks on our Second Amendment rights," Riley said. "I have no doubt he will continue to lead that fight in the Oval Office."
