Report: Texans RB Arian Foster suffers significant groin injury

Nate Davis
USA TODAY Sports
Texans RB Arian Foster has surpassed 1,000 rushing yards four of the past five seasons.

Houston has a major problem, namely the Texans' offensive backfield.

Pro Bowl running back Arian Foster suffered a major groin injury during Monday's night practice and may require surgery, according to ESPN. That would potentially cost him at least a major chunk of the 2015 season.

The Texans, who are conducting a quarterback battle between Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett, were relying on Foster to propel an offense that also said goodbye to longtime wideout Andre Johnson in the offseason.

Foster's backups, Alfred Blue and Chris Polk, are dealing with their own nagging injuries, further muddying the short-term outlook as it pertains to training camp reps.

Foster's 1,246 rushing yards (in 13 games) ranked sixth in the NFL last season.
