Greenlight plan to stop some deportations? #tellusatoday

USA TODAY

Demonstrators rally outside the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans on April 17, 2015.

Last week, a federal appeals court blocked the Obama administration's program to protect millions of undocumented immigrants from deportation. Comments from Facebook are edited for clarity and grammar:

Let the issue go through the courts, all the way through. If President Obama's action is legally sound, then he can wait a little longer.

If it is not, I don't want the program implemented, only to find out later that he had no authority to open the barn door.

— Hugh Marshall

And how does this delay solve the problem? The Republicans try to shut down Obama every chance they get. But saying no to programs or suing to get their way is not solving the problem. It is merely prolonging it.

I am glad that the courts and Congress are slowly stepping up to the plate and doing their jobs. The man who would be king badly needs strong accountability.

Blake McDaniel

It is strange that people think deportation will end the problem. Illegal immigrants come to work. They find employment and are typically exploited. General wages go down because of this cheap labor.

The problem lies with the employers; punish them. Remove the jobs, and you don't have to worry about the borders.

Letter to the editor:

Had the GOP lived up to its promise to fight President Obama's executive amnesty "tooth and nail" after its election victory in November, there would be no need to leave it to the courts ("Deportation program still stalled by courts," News, May 27).

And reporters must be reminded that Obama's lawless act also involves giving work permits and Social Security numbers to illegal immigrants, not just protecting them from deportation.

We asked followers what they thought of a federal court blocking President Obama's immigration plan. Comments from Twitter are edited for clarity and grammar:

It's a good thing. Uphold the rule of law, and the checks and balances.

@VitalyKroy

USA should legalize the immigrants so they can help the country improve its financial situation by paying taxes.

@shuchashame

You mean the ruling of two judges appointed by conservatives on a three-member court? It's expected.

@Romburg53

Circumventing the current laws is not a solution. Courts are fulfilling their role.
