Chuck Pagano wears shirt honoring Chiefs safety Eric Berry at Colts training camp

Chuck Pagano and Eric Berry may be loyal to competing NFL teams, but their fight against a bigger obstacle seems to have brought them together.

The Colts coach wore a shirt honoring the Chiefs player who announced late last month that he was ‘cancer free’ less than a year after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease. Pagano was diagnosed with cancer in 2012.

Berry said through his fight he received support from people around the NFL, including Pagano who got a request from Andy Reid shortly after Berry was diagnosed to give him a call.

“He would text me and tell me, ‘look, they’re going to do a bone marrow biopsy,” Berry told reporters last month. “This is what you need to be prepared for — this, this, this, and this.’ And he had me prepared for a lot of the things that I wasn’t aware of, so I think I was just very blessed to have people to reach out and help me along this whole situation.”
