Report: Jim Harbaugh to coach Michigan football

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Jim Harbaugh is headed to Ann Arbor to be Michigan's coach, according to one of his closest friends.

Comcast Sports Network Bay Area's Dave Feldman, who went to high school with Harbaugh in Palo Alto and now hosts the pregame show for the 49ers announced the news Saturday night, saying Michigan will have a press conference on Tuesday.

Feldman, who confirmed the tweet was sent by him, and Harbaugh have been friends for decades and are close enough that Harbaugh let Feldman accompany him on his annual summer pilgrimage to Peru to film a documentary last summer.

Harbaugh apparently told his team he is leaving the San Francisco 49ers during their team meetings at the Santa Clara Marriott.

One of his players, offensive tackle Anthony Davis, tweeted about his coach's departure late Saturday night — about 9:30 p.m. PT — as the 49ers wrapped up team meetings and Davis wished him well.

In a tweet he later deleted, Davis said, "It's only right. I wish him the best on his next Coaching Job. If you google it, you'll see where that will be ..."

That was before Feldman's tweet but after multiple reports earlier in the day, citing the move. The first report was from Bleacher Report's Jason Cole, who cited sources within the 49ers coaching staff.
