NASCAR penalizes Jennifer Jo Cobb for cell phone in truck

Jennifer Jo Cobb was assessed a P3 penalty by NASCAR Tuesday.

As if wrecking in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series practice at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park wasn't bad enough, Jennifer Jo Cobb was caught on camera Sunday pulling a banned device out of her damaged vehicle: a cell phone.

Cobb's phone bill got a lot more expensive Tuesday when NASCAR fined her $7,500 because electronic devices are not allowed in the car (they could theoretically enhance performance if used a certain way). Cobb received a $5,000 base fine plus a $2,500 "bonus" fine for getting penalized while already on probation after walking on a hot track earlier this year at Dover International Speedway.

The cell phone rule — a P3 penalty — stems from Brad Keselowski's famous in-car Twitter photo of a burning jet dryer in the 2012 Daytona 500. Keselowski wasn't penalized for that incident but was fined $25,000 later that year for tweeting again from his car during a red flag period.
