Contributor Joshua Nowicki is a life-long Michigan resident.

"I love Michigan," he said. "The changing (seasons) are inspiring."

Nowicki's frosty photo, featuring friend and surf and paddle board enthusiast Karol Garrison, was taken at the South Pier in Saint Joseph, Mich.

"Stand up paddle boarding in the winter and the ice-covered lighthouse are both independently wonderful subjects," said Nowicki. Photographing the two together was an "amazing opportunity," he added.

"He seems to stand in awe of the icy structure," Nowicki said.

He took this photo with a Nikon D3200 and 85mm lens and made minor edits in Photoshop.
