Packers alternates for upcoming season force us to unpack the meaning of 'throwback'

On Tuesday, Nike unveiled the alternate third jerseys that the Green Bay Packers will be suiting up in for the upcoming season. The jerseys are an homage to the 1994 season, which were an homage to the strips the team wore from 1937-1949.

So the jerseys are throwbacks…to throwbacks. The Packers will be wearing them when they take on the San Diego Chargers in October.

The ’94 season is an interesting one to want to turn the clock back to, considering the Packers went 9-7 and crashed out of the playoffs at the divisional round to the Dallas Cowboys, but at the very least, the jerseys look cooler than the “historic” ones they were wearing before.
