Josh Charles gets a season-long arc in Showtime's "Masters of Sex."

For actor Josh Charles, it's out of the sex frying pan and into the sex fire.

The former Good Wife star, whose now-deceased character, Will Gardner, remains a smoldering memory for his former law partner and lover Alicia Florrick, will have a season-long role on Showtime's Masters of Sex. The drama, which centers on the tumultuous relationship between pioneering sex researchers William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), returns for Season 3 on July 12 (10 p.m. ET/PT).

Charles, who left Good Wife last year, will play Daniel Logan, described by Showtime as a charismatic, "self-made businessman working in the scent industry. In an attempt to bottle the smell of sex and market an aphrodisiac to the general public, Dan seeks out Masters and Johnson's expertise on desire."

Showtime says Logan's relationship with Masters and Johnson "becomes complicated," which would make it a good fit with pretty much every other relationship on the program.

Season 3 is set in 1966, with the unveiling of Masters' and Johnson's sex study putting them into the national spotlight just as the sexual revolution is beginning. Their work will have "a profound impact on contemporary relationships, especially their own evolving three-way 'marriage' with Masters' wife Libby (Caitlin FitzGerald)," Showtime says.

Charles also is scheduled to appear this summer on the Netflix comedy series, Wet Hot American Summer.
