Bethesda Softworks confirmed the development of post-apocalyptic adventure Fallout 4, which will launch on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

After unveiling a teaser site Tuesday, Bethesda revealed the video game's first trailer, which features a member of one of the vaults used to house residents after a nuclear war ravaged the U.S.

As many on Twitter have pointed out, it looks like the game is based in Boston, as indicated by the appearance of several landmarks including the Massachusetts State House.

The lead character is wearing a jumpsuit from what appears to be Vault 111, equipped with the standard Pip-Boy wrist device. Also, it looks like players will have a four-legged canine friend join them for the journey. There's also some familiar enemy faces spotted, including ghouls and deathclaws.

"We know what this game means to everyone," said Fallout game director Todd Howard in a statement. "The time and technology have allowed us to be more ambitious than ever. We've never been more excited about a game, and we can't wait to share it."

The last game from Bethesda Game Studios was 2011's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, heralded by multiple outlets (including this one) as the year's best game.

Fallout 3 -- released in 2008 -- was set in Washington, D.C., as players emerged from a vault in search of their father.
