And the award for oddest cruise ship souvenir goes to ...

Costa Cruises passengers now can have a 3D statuette of themselves made during voyages.

Remember when the big activity on a cruise ship formal night was getting your portrait taken? There's now a new twist on the concept at Costa Cruises:  Having your image turned into a full 3D statuette.

The Europe-based line has partnered with design studio Labs3D to offer passengers five-inch statuettes of themselves for around $96. Four larger models are available at a higher cost.

Costa says on-board staff use a machine that takes a body scan of a passenger in minutes, immortalizing every detail from hairstyle to arm position. The scan then is sent to Labs3D's studio in Barcelona where it is processed and printed in 3D. The resulting statuette then is mailed to the passenger's home.

New ship, new era at Costa Cruises

The service initially is available on Costa's newest vessel, the Costa Diadema.

USA TODAY got a sneak peek at the Diadema earlier this year as it sailed in the Mediterranean. For our deck-by-deck look at the vessel, scroll through the carousel at the top of this story.
