Woman charged with neglect; baby found by road

WUSA-TV, Washington, D.C.

PASADENA, Md. — A Baltimore woman was charged with child neglect and reckless endangerment after her baby girl was found on the side of a road in Anne Arundel County.

According to Anne Arundel County police, a 6-week-old infant female was found just before midnight Saturday on the 900 block of Druid Hill Avenue in Pasadena, a town of about 24,000 people south of Baltimore.

Police posted a picture of the baby to social media, and at about 10 a.m. Sunday they received a call from a woman claiming to be the mother of the child.

According to police, the caller, later identified as Sandra McClary of Baltimore, said the baby's father was supposed to have the child and she did not know where the father was. She said she did not have the child and did not know of her whereabouts.

After providing a description over the phone that matched that of the infant, McClary, 26, was transported to Eastern District where she positively identified the child.

An investigation determined that McClary removed the child from her vehicle and left her on the side of the road. Her vehicle matched a partial tag that officers established had left the area at around the time when the child was left there.

Police say this is an ongoing investigation and they are looking to speak with additional people. The child is being cared for by Social Services.
