Orioles acquire Gerardo Parra from Brewers

USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Orioles, on the cusp of an American League wild card berth and with the New York Yankees still in sight in the AL East, moved to fortify their outfield on Friday by trading for Milwaukee's Gerardo Parra.

Gerardo Parra, 28, is a pending free agent at the end of the year.

Parra, heavily pursued by multiple teams, joins Carlos Gomez as the second Brewers outfielder traded in as many days, after they shipped Gomez to Houston on Thursday. He ranks ninth in the National League in OPS, at .886, while batting .325. The Brewers will receive minor league pitcher Zach Davies from the Orioles.

Parra, 28, is eligible for free agency after this season. The two-time gold glove winner may take over the leadoff spot for Manny Machado.

Davies, drafted in the 26th round of the 2011 draft, is considered the No. 3 prospect in the Orioles organization. As a 21-year old in Class AA in 2014, he struck out 109 batters in 110 innings, and has a 2.84 ERA in 19 Class AAA appearances, 18 of them starts, this season.
