John Calipari actually had a goal to send nine players to the draft, not eight, instead of winning title

Much of Big Blue nation (and college basketball fans) couldn’t believe that John Calipari was prioritizing sending players to the NBA over winning a national title, as he said in a speech at Rupp Arena earlier this week, but on Twitter he insisted that what he reportedly said was exactly what he meant.

Of course this is helpful in recruiting for the types of players that Calipari wants. And like many things Calipari does, it’s likely to be fodder in the debate about one-and-dones (which we will point out for the umpteenth time is actually because of the NBA age limit not the NCAA) and more hot button issues in college sports.

Meanwhile, Calipari’s 2015-16 team is still incredibly high in preseason rankings, so it’s likely he’ll have a shot at doing both again next season (though maybe not sending eight players.)
