That said, after holing his birdie putt on the second playoff hole to win the 2015 RBC Heritage, Furyk executed a celebration that even Tiger himself would have been proud of. “That was four-and-a-half years of frustration in that celebration,” Furyk said afterwards.

It’s been a long time coming for Furyk, who’s remained one of the PGA Tour’s best players despite not winning in nearly five years. Since capturing the 2010 Tour Championship, he’s finished second seven times, lost nine 54-hole leads, and made close to $15 million.

He had to fight for it, too. Leading by one as his nearest chaser, Kevin Kisner, played the 18th hole, Kisner birdied to force a playoff then matched Furyk’s birdie on the first extra hole. Furyk eventually prevailed after birdieing the second playoff hole.
