TV tonight: 'America's Got Talent' at 10
America's Got Talent: 10 Year Anniversary Special
NBC, 8 ET/PT
Odds are most of us couldn't name all nine winners of this NBC talent show if you spotted us the first eight. But unlike American Idol, Talent was never designed to turn its winner into a household name: How could it when there are so few outlets for the kind of vaudeville acts it tends to prize? What it's done instead is provide a now-rare TV home for the kind of performers who were once variety-show mainstays. Most of the winners may not become big stars — and the biggest star, Jackie Evancho, didn't win — but if the show has helped them make a living at the thing they love, everyone's come out ahead.
Law & Order
WEtv, 8 ET/PT
Let's continue our walk down NBC's memory lane with this Law outing from 1994, the last with original star Michael Moriarty. As a bonus, it also features a pre-West Wing Allison Janney in a crucial role as a potential witness.
Friday Night Lights
TeenNick, 9:30 ET/PT
The same year NBC gave us Talent, it also gave us this lovely domestic drama, which used football as a prism though which to view small-town life. This poignant episode from the first and best season takes us to homecoming, and to the realization that all dreams do not come true.
