A Capitol Fourth

PBS, Saturday, 8 ET/5 PT

Once again, PBS celebrates Independence Day with a live concert from the Mall. Bradley Whitford hosts the event, which includes performances by Alabama, Nicole Scherzinger and Barry Manilow.

Shark Week/SharkFest

Discovery/Nat Geo Wild, Sunday, 8 ET/PT

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, what is outright theft? Let's go with "amusing adulation," as NatGeo Wild openly lifts Discovery's sharkathon for a fin-tastic week of its own. Both start Sunday, as Wild's Shark Alley, United Sharks of America and Shark Kill Zone take on Discovery's Shark Trek, Island of the Mega Shark, Monster Mako, andShark After Dark. Here's hoping you can tell one show from another — and that at least one tries to tamp down our fear of sharks to a more realistic level, rather than heightening it.

Humans

AMC, Sunday, 9 ET/PT

Life, both human and robotic, becomes even more complicated in the second outing of this excellent new AMC drama, as Laura's (Katherine Parkinson) suspicions of Anita (Gemma Chan) grow, along with our knowledge of what this new generation of robots can do. But the true worth of this show lies not in its hardware but in its heart, represented by William Hurt's George Millican, a stand-in for every aging man who finds his humanity under assault from caregivers who are certain they know best.
