Kansas freshman Cliff Alexander will not play Saturday against Texas because of a potential eligibility issue, the Jayhawks announced prior to tip-off.

"The NCAA has alerted us to an issue that could affect Cliff's eligibility," Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zenger said in a statement. "As a precautionary measure Cliff will not take the court until we have resolved the issue."

Rated the No. 4 recruit in his class by Rivals.com, Alexander came to Kansas with lofty expectations. He's averaging 7.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 17.6 minutes per game.

"We are committed to NCAA rules compliance," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "and we want to make sure that we take every precaution to minimize the impact on Cliff."

Alexander, a five-star forward out of Chicago, chose Kansas over more than a dozen high-major programs.
