DETROIT – Red Wings forward Drew Miller rushed off the ice minutes into Tuesday’s game after being struck in the face by a skate.

Miller suffered two lacerations around his right eye, but the team announced there was no damage to the eye itself.

“It’s a scary moment, for sure,” Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall said. “But at the same time, we all found out fairly quickly that he was going to be OK.”

Miller, who wears a visor, was injured after a faceoff, when Ottawa’s Mark Stone fell forward and his right leg swung up just as Miller stepped forward. Miller was cut on his right cheek by the skate blade, and he immediately signaled to his bench that he needed to come off.

“Millsie looks like he’ll have a big-time scar, but he’ll be back,” Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said.

UPDATE: Drew Miller back at practice and wants to play despite needing 50-60 stitches.
