Halloween weather forecast: Cold, snow in Midwest

Halloween weather

The weather for Halloween will be downright scary in parts of the central and eastern U.S. due to the frigid temperatures and even some snow.

Midwest, Great Lakes: Chilly winds will usher in temperatures in the 30s and 40s around the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes states. A cold rain and some wet snow will add to the dreary feel in the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley.

East: Most of the East Coast will see clear skies for Halloween, though temperatures will be cool in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Some showers will work their way into the Northeast by the evening. The Southeast will remain warm and dry.

West: The Southwest will be clear and lovely on Friday, but that won't be the case in the Northwest, where rain along the coast and snow in the mountains will make it miserable for the trick-or-treaters.

Weather history for Oct. 31: In 1993, cold and snow spread across the south-central and eastern U.S. All-time record lows were set in Texas, where temperatures dropped into the 20s, and snow was reported as far south as Atlanta.

In 1998, rain from the remnants of Hurricane Mitch inundated central America, leading to at least 11,000 deaths.
