Gary Neal agrees to contract with Wizards

Gary Neal has agreed to a deal with Washington.

The Washington Wizards continue to quietly and effectively mitigate the loss of Paul Pierce with quality offseason acquisitions.

One day after trading for veteran forward Jared Dudley, the Wizards reached a one-year, $2.1 million deal with free-agent guard Gary Neal, a person with direct knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports.

The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the deal until the free agent moratorium period ends on July 9.

The Wizards, who used their bi-annual exception on Neal, are also trying to sign free-agent forward David West.

Neal, who is from nearby Baltimore, is another shooter who will stretch the floor and allow John Wall and Marcin Gortat to run their productive pick-and-roll sets or allow Wall to find open shooters at the three-point line.

Though Neal shot just 30.5% on three-pointers last season, he is a career 38.1% three-pointer shooter and should get more open looks with the Wizards than he did last season with Charlotte and Minnesota.

Yahoo first reported the deal.
