Delta Air Lines announced two trans-Atlantic routes on Monday, adding new European connections from its hubs in Detroit and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

From Detroit, Delta will begin flying to Munich on May 26, offering six weekly round-trip flights on 246-seat Boeing 767-400ER aircraft.

From Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP), Delta will launch daily round-trip service to Rome using 226-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. That route also will begin May 26. Delta says Rome will become its fifth long-haul international destination from MSP, joining Amsterdam, London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Tokyo Narita.

Delta notes the trans-Atlantic routes revealed on Monday join three others it had already announced for next summer. They are New York JFK-Edinburgh, Scotland; Salt Lake City-London Heathrow; and Raleigh/Durham-Paris-Charles de Gaulle.

"Our five new routes will complement our returning seasonal service for a full summer of trans-Atlantic flying in 2016," Dwight James, Delta's SVP - trans-Atlantic, says in a statement. "Detroit to Munich is important for our corporate customers, while Minneapolis-St. Paul to Rome is a strong addition to our existing hub service from Rome."
